Kudos Restaurant Wins Tiffin Cup Nomination for Tamworth

Friday, June 17th, 2011

Kudos, the Indian fusion food restaurant on Coleshill Street, Fazeley has won Tamworth’s vote in the first round of the Tiffin Cup.  The competition, run annually by Keith Vaz MP and Michael Fabricant MP, aims to find the best South Asian cuisine in the United Kingdom.  The two MPs invite their colleagues to nominate a restaurant in their constituencies.  Each restaurant is then visited by mystery diners to mark the food, service, atmosphere and decor to find the winner of the Tiffin Cup.  The award is made each year at a prestigious London venue sponsored by the Newby Tea company.  All finalists are invited to attend.

Christopher Pincher, who ran the first heats competition in Tamworth, commented: “Each year I ask all of our local South Asian food restaurants to ask their customers to write to me with their nominations.  This year Kudos was the clear winner with more nominations than anyone else.  They got a whopping 549 votes.  I look forward to welcoming them to London for the Tiffin Cup reception and wish them luck with their mystery diners.  I think they have a great chance in this competition which gives us a chance to showcase our local restaurants and put us on the culinary map.”

Proprietor Mohammad Miah of Kudos said:

“I am really very pleased that local people have voted my family run fusion restaurant to go onto the finals of the Tiffin Cup.  It is a marvellous vote of confidence and I look forward to serving the mystery diners – whoever they are.  I am sure we can show them that we have really good food here on offer in Tamworth”

Last year’s local nominees, Fazeley Park restaurant, came very close to winning the Cup, scooping an “honourable commendation” award from the judges.

The competition winner will be announced in September.
