Last week Christopher presented an INGOTS Certificate of Excellence to Two Rivers School. INGOTS is a recent but highly regarded technology qualification awarded to Two Rivers which teaches special needs pupils in the Tamworth area for its excellent work with students. Christopher says: “We spent nearly two hours touring the school and meeting staff and students. There is a tremendous amount going on which is a real credit to the staff. I was very impressed by Two Rivers School (TRS) Racing Team which has built its own green racing car and beat off about four hundred other teams to end up in ninth place at Greenpower National Final at Goodwood.
Well done Two Rivers!

I would like to echo Ken Norchi in his letter last week supporting the campaign to bring the Saxon gold hoard to Tamworth. Ken and I may not agree on everything but I am sure we all agree that issues like this are beyond politics and we must all come together to support this campaign. It will be good for our heritage and for our local economy. As John Harper shows in his weekly column, Tamworth and its local villages have a rich and proud history. This is an ideal place for the Saxon gold to be displayed so please complete the coupon in the Herald. With Ken I encourage everyone to support this campaign bringing our community together to bring Tamworth’s treasure home.

On Sunday I joined Elford Villagers for their Harvest Festival lunch. Nearly 90 people were there including many former villagers who make the journey back each year for the Harvest lunch.
The Elford Singers performed for everyone, there was a silent auction and all in all,a tremendous community atmosphere which was really enjoyable.
Congratulations to the organisers!

I’m now back in Tamworth having spent the last few days at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester.
Eighteen people from our Tamworth Conservative team made the trip including two councillors and six members of our Conservative Future youth team.
It was a tremendous experience. The people there were really enthusiastic about Britain’s future despite the huge problems the next government, whoever forms it, will face.

A new threat to our local green space has emerged in the shape of a revised Regional Spatial Strategy recommending 2000 extra houses for Lichfield District, 1000 of which are earmarked for “north of Tamworth”. This almost certainly means the land along the Ashby Road towards Tamworth. Such a building programme will have a massive impact on people living in the communities on the edge of Tamworth such as in Perrycrofts and Coton Green as well as the village of Wigginton.

Christopher Pincher, Conservative Party Candidate for Tamworth Constituency has pledged to do his bit for the British Armed Forces family.
Mr. Pincher met with representatives from The Royal British Legion at the recent Conservative party conference in Manchester where he was presented with a copy of the Legion’s manifesto for the next general election.
The manifesto sets out priorities for the next Government to improve conditions for the British Armed Forces past and present and their families. It encourages Mps and parliamentary candidates to “do their bit” for service personnel and their families, the bereaved, veterans and dependents.
Kevin Shinkwin, the Legion’s Head of Public Affairs said, “We are really grateful to Christopher for making the time to meet with us and listen to our concerns. Our message to every candidate standing at the general election is very simple: ‘It’s time to do your bit’
“The entire Armed Forces family needs the support of politicians from all parties,” he added. “Our manifesto outlines practical ways the next government can help, and we hope all the parties will give it serious consideration”.
