Innovative Assessment Centre Rolled Out To Prospective Conservative Councillors

A total of 14 applicants were put through their paces in the half day sessions which consisted of several different modules, each constructed to enable applicants to showcase their abilities in a rage of different scenarios.
Centre Co-ordinator, Craig Tracey explained:
“There has long been the need for a fair and transparent selection process which enables any would be councillor to be assessed on their abilities. The feedback from attendees has been excellent and despite some initial skepticism, everyone seems to have identified the system as being a positive step that the Association is taking. We have been able to establish some excellent potential candidates and, as importantly, we have identified areas for improvement for which able to offer training and support to really enhance their skills and strengths thus ensuring that we will be putting forward an exceptional group of prospective councillors looking to serve the town”

Christopher Pincher
Conservative Member of Parliamentary for Tamworth
Christopher Pincher was first elected MP for Tamworth in May 2010 with a majority of 6,090. Christopher was re-elected in 2015 with an increased majority of 11,302.

Last week Christopher Pincher, Tamworth’s Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman, organised a telephone poll of up to 1300 local residents to ask them their opinion on the MPs’ expenses scandal that has engulfed Westminster. With the help of 20 young volunteers working from a state of the art call centre, the team made over 1000 calls in just 90 minutes.
Local residents were asked if they agreed with Mr. Pincher that all MPs’ expenses should be published on the internet immediately they are submitted so everyone can see what their MP is claiming and whether they believed the Kelly recommendations [report by Sir Christopher Kelly on updating the parliamentary expenses system] on cleaning up the expenses system should be implemented without delay. Two both questions over 80% of residents gave a resounding “yes”.

Last week I visited South Staffordshire College (Tamworth campus) with David Willetts MP, Shadow Universities Secretary, to meet staff and students. The college has over 20,000 students across three campuses – Tamworth is the biggest. It was great to see the work being done there and the enthusiasm of both teachers and taught. Charlotte Burford, who won a well deserved international award at the World Skills finals in Calgary, Canada, was also there and she told David all about the skills she is developing. David rounded off his visit with an interview on Touch FM and a plug to bring the Staffordshire Hoard to Tamworth! I know he enjoyed it and I look forward to visiting again myself soon.

Despite the wind, the rain and general November greyness, we have been out and about meeting people in Wilnecote this afternoon – a great response from the doorstep so thank you to people in Falcon and Lakeland.

We’ve just run a telephone poll of local residents in Tamworth constituency about the MPs’ expenses scandal.
Nearly 20 helpers made calls from our tele-canvassing centre to ask people if they agree all MPs’ expenses should be published on the internet so people can see what is being claimed, and whether they agree with David Cameron that Sir Christopher Kelly’s proposals to fix the abuses should be implemented in full without delay.

In the last couple of weeks I’ve been helping out in the Elford Walled Garden in the grounds of the old Elford Hall now long demolished.
Villagers have clubbed together to revive the garden, cleaning up the two acre interior, stripping ivy from the walls, fixing the conservatory and the mushroom houses, replanting the orchard and renovating the old head gardener’s house as a visitor centre.
Since starting work last February a huge amount has already been done to clear away decades of undergrowth and rubbish but the project will take years to complete. It is a great example of what local people can do together for their community, volunteerism at its best.
It’s also a good opportunity for me to get out and about doing some heavy lifting – I can do with the exercise!
